Youth for Innovation is a non-governmental organization founded in April 2013 in Belgrade, Serbia. The organization was founded by students in order to respond with a solution to the current problems faced by young people. Youth for Innovation is a youth organization whose goal is to involve young people in decisions that affect them and for which they are interested. Youth for Innovation is based in Belgrade, but we try to cover as many cities as possible through our activities.
Our first project was ‘’Be a councilor’’. One of the major challenges faced in Serbia is the lack of promotion of democratic values. Therefore, we try to promote these EU values through our various projects. Furthermore, the participation of young people is one of the most serious challenges facing our society. As a result, we try to inspire young people to think of ways they can contribute to society and how, by taking care of themselves, they can contribute to society as well. We recognized the lack of connection between young people and local governments, as well as their lack of knowledge about it. The project ‘’Be a councilor’’ was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Government of Serbia in two municipalities in Belgrade – Stari Grad and Vracar. We then conducted the project in six more municipalities, with more than 350 young people, who have gone taken part in our workshops, simulations and other types of training.
In addition to this project, we have conducted a few online conferences with various guests at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Belgrade, where we wanted to address the challenges faced by young and active people. The experiences of young European politicians were particularly interesting.
Our mission is to motivate and empower young people to discover their capabilities and to engage them in solving issues they are faced with. Furthermore, we want to help them to creatively fulfil their time.
Methodologies used in the organisation’s work are: non-formal education, use of simulation in peer education, social and media campaigning and social marketing.
